How can I reprogram my Moto G6 Play on my network?

I have a Moto G6 play and I want to bring it over to my cell phone network but its operating system is somehow fixed to another network. How can I re-program it's hardware or software so that I can use it with my cell phone network?

If the phone is software locked to your old carrier, contact that carrier and they will unlock the phone for free assuming you meet all the contractual requirements.

If the phone's hardware does not support your new carrier, usually due to different radio frequencies or GSM vs CDMA, then you need to buy new hardware that works with the new carrier.
