How can I see saved Wifi passwords?

My sister was visiting our parents yesterday and wanted to know the password for their Wifi(of course my parents couldnt remember). I could not for the life of me figure out how to view it on my phone.

I feel like back in the day I could just check the radio button "show" and it would be visible. Apparently not so anymore.

Anyone know how to figure this out?

Wifi Password Show will show it. Then write it down and tape it to the bottom of the router. (If anyone is close enough to read it, they're close enough to reset the router.) If there's a guest account in the router, I'd set that up and use it for everyone - that doesn't give anyone access to the devices logged into the main account.

But do I have to be connected to the router at that time for it to show? The situation was I wasnt there but they needed the password.

For the record, when I got to my parents later in the day I was able to log into the router and get the password that way.

Woops! Wait. You need to be rooted to show passwords. (All my phones are always rooted, so I sometimes forget that.)

And that particular app isn't there any more (it's still on my phone, though), but this is a page full of similar ones at Play.

Ok, so theres the rub. I am not rooted and dont plan to be. I used to be on all my other phones, is that why I was able to see the passwords back then?

Keep in mind that routers generally have a semi-default Wi-Fi password which is generally shown on a label on the underside of the router. By "semi-default" I mean that it is configured at the factory, but is different for each individual device manufactured by that company.

My guess is the majority of users never change from the default (until recently, when some cable providers began offering tools to easily change it), so the underside of the router is always a good place to look.

Yeah, if I'm by the router I can definitely look. I'm trying to see the passwords of routers I'm not even near but have saved on my phone.

Understood. But in your original post, you could have simply told your sister to look at the bottom of the router and try the password that was shown there.

I had changed the password last time I was there so it was easier for the family to remember lol. Only way I got it was I logged into the router the next time I came over.

It's not good to keep default username and password on a router .
