How can I set my phone to notify that I have a voicemail?

My phone doesn't notify me when someone has left a voicemail. Is there a setting I can activate to notify when a voicemail is left on my phone? When someone texts me I get a message "new message' but nothing for voicemail. Enough info?

Welcome to Android Central! Open your Phone/Dialer app, tap Menu>Settings>Call Settings>Voicemail, and make sure the notification is set to something besides silent. Also make sure your voicemail is set up correctly.
