ArcadeCrush Ads Pop-ups, p*rn HELP!

Help! My family member has been having problems with pop-ups and ads slowing their computer. We thought it stemmed from one of the kids downloading a game that was of dubious quality. Today I searched family member's phone web browser history for an article we were reading the day before and found a ton of p*rn sites. I'm no prude but this was a little out of character for the family member, who swears it must be from the pop-ups and ad problems their devices are having (they are all synched). I googled Arcade Crush/ Arcade Yum and they are rife with problems. In addition to the ads, can they also link to p*rn sites without a user's participation? Is this something we can uninstall on our own?:'(

You probably should solicit professional help (it's what I do in Louisville, KY in fact). However if you want to try a quick DIY, download ADWCleaner and let it clean what it finds. With innocuous PUPs ("potentially unwanted programs") and other such items it can be quite effective as a first step.

Also - just remembered Family Member also has been going to a "free" movie site, for recently released movies. Ugh.

Thanks othersteve, we are calling our tech person tomorrow. OK, this is nosy, but do you think my family member really has been looking at naughty stuff or could this stuff have been around from the free movie or game sites?

It's honestly impossible to say without personally assessing the situation. I will say that most of those "free" anything sites are incredibly dangerous, and they'll get you infected in a hurry. The primary source of infection is outdated plugins and the use of Internet Explorer, which facilitates drive-by exploits.

One last piece of advice: be careful who you hire. I am not kidding when I say that something like 95% of techs really just aren't very good at what they do. You need someone who does manual disinfection (or manual-assisted); automated approaches, such as scanning, no longer work.
