Well I've got good news for anyone willing to try, I just restored about 50 apps using helium from my s5 to my s6 and retained app data even for games like temple run 2. Best of luck to all!

How well does the S6 fit into the Defender case? Can you put up a couple pics with it in the case? Thanks.

For some reason after setting up my google account I didnt see the option to transfer apps from a certain device and android beam does not seem to be working very well.

Is there an easy way to transfer apps and app data (and preferably wifi passwords) without using a 3rd party app?

Works pretty well thanks, unfortunately I dont believe I can transfer app data and saved wifi password info with it

For that you should use Samsung Kies if you still have your previous device and is a Samsung device. For the App Data you can always use Hellium, install it in both devices and backup in one and restore in the other or if you pay the Full Edition, you can backup to the Cloud or sync between all your devices.

It fits really well with the defender case on. I'll try to put up some pictures as soon as I can. I don't have my s5 right now to take some pictures. My son got it as soon as I transferred my stuff.

Transfering from my m7 using nfc was very easy and I was shocked as id never used nfc before. Guessing the s4 doesn't have that capability?

I changed from a Samsung S5 to a S6 using Smartswitch. Everything transferred over except for my apps. Any suggestions??? Also, it tried to transfer 18,513 contact. I don't know 500 people.
Is there an easy way to clean up multiple contacts. I tried going through individually, but it took too much time.

In your contacts setting is there a "merge contacts"? Try that.

Helium or MyBackup will transfer SMS/MMS. Plus there's dedicated SMS backup Apps. Just search 'SMS backup' in the Play store and you'll several of those.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

you need to download samsung smartswitch software on both phones. It will ask you which one is the sending and the receiver. It's the easiest way for transferring everything from your old phone.

If both devices are Android, I'd use Samsung's Smart Switch. It's available free and very easy to use; google it.

You make it sound so simple but for a pleb like me, would you mind putting it step by step, or is there a link where someone has already listed the steps? I have tried downloading my s4 files to my PC but it can't get past "calculating time to download files" which is ridiculous ...

I always start from fresh each new phone, once logged into google play I just download my most used apps again. Surprisingly quick to do.

I have just tried this on a Galaxy S5 to S6. Unfortunately Smartswitch doesn't transfer any android apps. It only appears to transfer Samsung items and contacts, etc. Samsung are being somewhat misleading here and really should be addressed on the matter.
