How can I unstick my email icon?

Email icon stucks

When I get mail, normally the number you see above the icon changes. But now, it says 9 for a couple of days. Email is getting synchronized, that's not the problem. It works okay. But the only thing thats bothering me is the number 9 in the icon on my screen. I already deleted my emial account and put it back again. But also with no account, the icon says 9.
Maybe someone has a solution?

Hi there!

Try entering recovery, and doing a wipe of the Cache Partition. No data will be loss.

Hi Chris, thanks for your answer. I cleared all caches (email, email. writing email, sync email) I restarted my tab, but nothing has changed. Still the number 9 :-(
I even used Ccleaner. Including ending email processes. Nothing happens.

Madushi, wiping the cache partition is a different process. Follow the instructions at the following link but choose to wipe the cache partition, DO NOT CHOOSE TO WIPE THE DEVICE AS INSTRUCTED.

Are you using the native email app that came with your Tab?

Any chance you have 9 unread emails that you have in your emails somewhere below what you normally look at?

Using the original e-mail that came with this tablet. And no,.. no unread emails anywhere. I checked and double checked.
