How can tell if my LG Nexus 4 E960 is unlocked without using a simcard? Also, how do I get my IMEI changed or repaired? I bought a phone online for my kid so we'd have contact with him in College. It worked for about 3 weeks and it stopped working. I had it unlocked but I also factory reset it while trying a suggestion from a friend to try and repair the IMEI. It didn't work and I'm wondering if I UNDID the Unlock. Please help, I can't afford to buy another phone for him right now. He's using mine in the meantime. Thanks for your help.

I never heard of a "locked" Nexus 4, but I just might not know. It sounds to me like your phone was reported stolen. I also don't think you can change or repair an imei number, but again I don't really know.

Anyway, your can check to see if your phone's imei will work on most carrier sites when you bring your own phone and have to buy a sim. Usually before you can buy a sim the site asks for your imei to see if your can use your phone. At least Cricket does, as well as AT&T.

I don't believe any Nexus 4 is SIM locked, or can be for that matter, even the T-Mobile ones were not locked to my knowledge... What you are referring to is unlocking the bootloader I believe (oem lock), locking or unlocking that should have no effect on the IMEI of the device. If you start the phone, go to the dialer and enter *#06# it will give you the IMEI number, it should be a unique 15 digit number for the N4 starting with 3564 I think, if it is all 0's or "Invalid", then you have a real problem, if you get the number try checking it at http://sndeep.info/en or any number of other sites to verify the device is not stolen.

What do you mean by "not working"... will the phone power on, boot, will it make calls, texts, MMS, access internet, etc?
