how can you delete multiple messages at once on a Samsung 5

my Samsung only allows me to delete one message at a time thus draining my battery. Is there a way to delete messages other than one at a time?

I am not with my daughter who has the Samsung 5, but try "long pressing" on the text message. This usually brings up a box where you can tap multiple messages to delete at once...
