How copy files from the Samsung Galaxy S7 to PC?

When the phone is tethered to the PC, the view from Windows Explorer/File Manager reads no files. I am looking to copy pictures from the sim card to an eternal hard drive. There must be a security setting blocking access to the files on the phone. What is the path to allow file transfers from the phone to PC?

When connected to your PC, swipe down on your phone and tap the USB Charging notification. Change the selection to File Transfer, and you're all set.

You'll need to do this each time you connect to your PC...although it seems this is corrected in Android 7.0 that just got released us to Verizon users.
