Access files on my computer via LAN

How do i access files on my computer and use them without them transferring to my tablet and using the space on it? I have ES File Explorer but i can open only images, text, audio or videos, not specific files that require apps on the tablet to open. Is there a way to do that?

Re: Access files on my computer via LAN

Welcome to Android Central! I've never tried it, but I would imagine that your phone wouldn't be able to directly open an app while it's still on the main desktop server. You'd probably have to copy it over to the phone's internal storage, and then open it with the app.

Yea i'm trying to avoid whole copy to tablet business and have like all my stuff on my computer. It would be amazing if someone made app like that. Everything on the computer and you just open in in the tablet no clutter on your portable device.

Re: Access files on my computer via LAN

Some apps are written to allow LAN as a file source (for example, Office Suite Pro can), others aren't. I suppose someone could write an app to mount a LAN-accessible drive as a folder on mnt (maybe someone already has), but I haven't seen any.
