Here's a tutorial for mounting a network-shared hard drive as a mount point, making it accessible to the media scanner service. This, in turn, allows the files to be seen by all installed applications in the same manner that files on the internal storage or an external microSD would be.
I'm not using it at the moment, but I can verify that it does work and is great for streaming over WiFi from a network drive and mirroring that content to a TV. There should be little to no difference performing this on a Nexus 10 as opposed to the Nexus 7.
