With what app?

Are you using regular SMS/MMS for this group "chat"?

If you're using MMS, then there is no group manager. In order for you to "leave" the group, they just have to start a new MMS thread without you.

Also, if you are talking about WhatsApp try this. Open the chat - three dots top right - group info - long press the member you want to select as admin and select 'make group admin'. After this you can leave the group.
