How do I change my own contact picture in messaging and contacts on Galaxy S8?

I've seen this question and tried the following 'Launch contacts app > hit your profile at the top > hit edit which is next to share > choose a picture.` As soon as you hit edit, it says the app keeps stopping. Anyone have this problem?

I'm having a similar problem. I edit and update picture and add information. as soon as I hit save. nothing happens.
