How do I determine if my Nexus 5 is a 310k, a 311k or 312k model

I just ordered a Nexus 5 yesterday and it said the phone would be available to ship on 3/7. I paid for 1 day shipping and got my phone today. My S/N starts with 401 and ends with 334 on the box. When I go into settings on my phone, then to about phone, lastly to status my serial number starts with 02e and ends with 789. How do I tell if it is a 310, 311 or 312?

The first three digits refer to when the phone was made - the first digit refers to the year (3=2013, 4=2014) and the next two digits refer to the month - so 401 means that it was made in January 2014 and is therefore more recent than the 310, 311 and 312.

which serial number is being referred to here? as when i go into about phone/status.... my serial begins 0600

I'm pretty sure most, if not all, devices being sold right now are the refined versions. I bought the Nexus 5 on release and had to get a replacement, through Sprint, and the newer (refurbished) model came in with the improvements by Google - less play with the buttons and larger speaker grill openings. The original version never bothered me one bit, but the difference is definitely noticeable.

Mine starts with 0509, so does that mean it was made in September of 2015 or September of 2005? In all seriousness, I'm confused on this.

I found the S/N on the box starts with this number but cannot find it anywhere in the "about phone" section. Actually the serial number there is completely different, About Phone > Status scroll to S/N. When did the refined version come out?

the serial number you guys are referring to is only found on the box and begins with 310k, 311k etc

so the box has a different serial number than that on the actual device.
that's not very helpful, and suggests that the number on the box actually isn't the serial but some other number masquerading as a serial.
