How do I disable the application tab?

Refer attached screenshots. I cannot seem to figure out how to disable this tab. Appears in every screen. It will let me move it to any edge of the screen but not close it. Any help welcome.

Just long press the back button

Note 2, it's true, ,size is everything!

Long press back button or turn off multi window in the status bar quick setting tab.
