Check out FolderSync - sync management to cloud or ftp (not directly to your pc) with finite folder and sync timing features.

Sorry that I didn't directly answer your question (offloading to pc), but i haven't done that with my android for a long time... I much prefer cloud, and then I can access from my pc.

Did your computer not automatically detect the G4? If not, you may need a driver. Google.

I recommend using One Drive. When connected to WiFi, it automatically uploads to the cloud giving me almost instant access on my computer. I no longer have to plug my phone into the computer.

As others have said you can plug it into your PC and you should be able to pull the photos off.

Try going to AirDroid.com on your pc. download
AirDroid from Google play, pair them together, you can download to pc or pc to phone, same with music.

AirDroid or a similar solution that allows transferring over the WiFi network is a good alternative. No cables or drivers to mess with.

Why not just set up Google Photos. That syncs photos online and on your PC.

Yes, airdroid is another gem for moving files between your Android and computer. The only fault I have with it, compared to FolderSync is that FolderSync will do the job automatically while airdroid requires a bit of work... however, FolderSync only works with cloud storage or ftp, while airdroid just needs wifi.

Or if you like screwing around you can pair your phone and pc via Bluetooth and use smartshare(no cable, no other file share accounts etc). I uploaded an audio book from the pc to the G4. Slow as molasses, but I wanted to see if it would work. It did, and the file transfer can go either way.

I have auto upload to One Drive but I also like a copy on my NAS so for that I use Sync by BitTorrent. Works on WiFi so it's as fast as your home network.

"Should" is the operative word. Yes, my G5 "should" talk to my computer, but it "doesn't."
It charges just fine, but I can't transfer files from my phone to my desktop. What's up widdat?
