How do I fix black screen on my Samsung galaxy a20e?

[Android Central Question]

My phone randomly started being weird yesterday and nothing I've tried works to fix it. Whenever the screen locks (either on its own or if I click the power button), it won't come back on. I still receive sound notifications for messages and things, but the screen stays black. I tried putting in my lock pattern where I normally would to see if it was just a lock screen malfunction, but that didn't work. The only way I can unlock my phone and see the screen to use it is if I restart my phone.

Here's what I've tried so far:
-removing a lock pattern
-restarting in safe mode (I have the same issue in safe mode)
-resetting all my app settings to default
-deleting the most recent app I installed (but it was installed over a month ago)
-getting to recovery mode (it won't let me get here - when I follow instructions for getting to recovery mode and hold down the power and volume up buttons, nothing changes, it just restarts as normal)

Anything else you think I could try would be appreciated, I really don't know what to do anymore. Thanks so much!

Sounds like a screen issue I would back up available data before it's too late
