How do I fix my broken headphone jack?

There is a small gold colored piece, part of my headphone jack that is sticking out. This piece is preventing me from being able to plug in my headphones. What is it and how do I fix it?

Apologies for blurry photo, it was taken off of an iPhone 4 *shudders*. But I believe that the gold piece is still visible.

I had mine for 8 months and had a pin go bad. Since it was still under warranty, just got a replacement. PIA to have to set up a new phone, but, worth it to have a working right ear on my headphones.
