How do i get rid of these Messenger notification pop-ups?

Hey, folks - I've always hated Messenger's "Chat Heads" thing, and disable it as soon as possible. I just upgraded to a Galaxy S6 edge+ though, and once I disabled Chat Heads, I started getting these irritating notification windows. They show up nomatter what I'm doing, even if it's a game or something that takes up the whole screen. I can't find any way to get rid of them short of disabling notifications for the app entirely, which I don't want to do... I want to be notified of new messages with a chime/vibration and with an icon in the top status bar, I just don't want this window appearing all over whatever I'm doing! I just flick them left or right when they pop up.

I know how to dismiss them, I want to stop them from showing up in the first place.

Settings wheel>Sounds and Notifications in the top middle circle, App Notifications>scroll down to messenger, you can block notifications there. I don't see anything that separates the pop ups, though. IIRC, those are kinda baked into the notification system as-is, and totally disabling the app is the only solution, unless there's an option in rooting, and that's out of my realm.

As I said, I want to get notifications for Messenger - I want it to chime and vibrate, and I want the icon to appear in the swipe-down menu. All I want to get rid of is this pop-up banner thing. It's never been a problem in any previous phone or version of Messenger.

That's the same exact problem I'm having. Were you able to find the pop up notification ?
