Can you be more specific. What phone? What software? Where is this icon? If you tap it, it should open whatever app it is...? It could be gps...

I think you are talking about Glympse,this is incorporated with the Verizon messaging app to enable location sharing with any of your contacts, and you don't necessarily have to use it. If you are talking about the Glympse app, then you can uninstall it.
