Hi guys ... So recently I purchased this 16 GB micro SDHC card for my new Android phone:

Newegg.com - Patriot Signature 16GB Micro SDHC Class 4 Flash Card Model PSF16GMCSDHC43P

The problem is that I'm not getting the 4 MB/sec write rate that this card promises ... I tried low level formatting it with this tool:

HDDGURU: HDD Low Level Format Tool

.... but the write-rate is still the same .. Both before and after trying to low level format the card, I'm getting a write-rate of about 0.9 MB/sec ~ 1.0 MB/sec ...

Other people who have purchased this card from Newegg have said in their feedback that they can at least achieve 3 MB/sec or something, and I'm not even close to that .. Am I doing something wrong ?

Ehhh... Yikes. You may want to repost this in the general help forum, you'll probably reach a few more tech savvy users there. I know I'm not up on my sd card knowledge.

Err, no .. I actually want to format it using my PC, but when I do this I'm still not getting the promised 4MB/sec speed ..

I'm using the microSD -> SD adapter which came with the microSD card itself, and then putting this SD adapter into my laptops builtin card reader ... Is there any problem with this setup ?

The G2 uses a Linux based OS. Formatting it on your PC may not set it up well for the G2. (Just a guess) I'd go with what Jalarm said and let the phone do it.

Re: How do I low level format a microSD card for my Android phone

I placed my new micro sd card in my g2x but could not find any link to Format SD Card anywhere. I went to settings, SD card... Nothing there. But the phone sees the card and states that I now have 14.45GB of available memory.

Any help is appreciated.

Menu > settings > storage > erase SD card.

I'd find it hard to believe that you'll ever get exactly the advertised speed on any SDcard. Unless you're getting sluggish performance transferring large files or you're noticing slow downs loading apps from the SDcard, I really wouldn't be worried about it too much.

I'd say that the simplest way is what you've already done, just simply putting it in a PC and formatting the card, though. If you're really not happy you can always return the card or request a replacement if you think its faulty.

to format the sd card sometimes you have to un mount the card before you will be given the option to format

so it would work like this menu>settings>sd/phone storage>unmount sd card>format
