How do I make Wear notifications last longer?

I very recently took delivery of a Huawei Watch 2 Classic and I'm finding that the notifications get dismissed by the watch very quickly. I sometimes have the watch under a sleeve and find that the notification has disappeared as soon as I've lifted my sleeve - I only get to see it for a split second. What can I do to make it last longer?

My first-gen Huawei Watch has 3 settings for notification display - Off, Normal (5 seconds), High (always). I don't see how to adjust it in a more granular manner.
