How Do I move Contacts From Phone to Gmail?

Can I ask a question on this topic here? Didn't want to start a new thread as I happen to be trying the same thing today.

I added gmail to my note 4, picked 'sync contacts', went to gmail online, no contacts.
Found this thread, so did the export then import checking the gmail account, still none in gmail

My phone contact settings look like this
