How do I navigate to my backup on the pc? There are no options for it.

My husband mainly had his contacts backed up on his PHONE, not google cloud. When he logged into a new phone, it didn't have many of the contacts he needed. Fortunately we had backed up his old phone on our pc. However, now the new phone (galaxy s7, android 7.0) only asks to restore from his samsung account. There are no options to even check a different backup. What's up with that? (I'm an apple phone user... I don't know android too well, but even after googling for an hour, I can't figure it out!) There is no generic "backup" direct to PC for Android. What device did he have previously?

So, did you use SmartSwitch to backup the S5?

If he used Samsung Smart Switch to back up, he can use it to restore to the new phone. If not, he has to figure out what he did, and use that backup to restore.

For the future, have him read Backing up an Android Device. It may not be the fastest way to back up a phone but, other than using TWRP, it's the most comprehensive way. (And TWRP is fooling around in the recovery partition of a phone, which a lot of people don't want to so.)
