how do i open files on my phone through my tv through usb

hi, i used to be able to plug my old phone into my tv (LG), through usb. now with my samsung s5 when i plug it in its says 'unable to support usb device' how do i fix it? lol im not realy good with this sort of thing so please keep it simple if you can. i just want to view my pictures and videos and stuff.

Welcome to Android Central! Was that old phone a flipphone? They probably used a different USB interface. You won't be able to do the same thing on modern Android devices. There are many other ways to do this. Chromecast is worth considering--it can do that and much more over a wireless connection, and it's quite cheap.
