how do i remove an unknown ssid on my android cell phone

unknown ssid sometimes appears under wifi icon on cell phone

Does it show as if it's connected? If not, it's just an available network in range and is nothing to worry about.

Welcome to Android Central! When your phone's wi-fi is on, it's always scanning for nearby wi-fi SSIDs. If you were to watch that screen constantly as you walk around, you'd see different SSIDs appearing and disappearing as you passed by them. There's nothing concerning about this.
