I got a new android tablet running 4.4.4. What information I could find says that to add a home screen, just drag an icon to the side and it will add another page. It also says when the last icon is removed, the empty home page will automatically disappear. However I find that on my new tablet, the empty pages are not deleting themselves.

I've tried the long hold, but that just configures the background. I tried the pinch, which works on my HTC m8, but the tablet just ignores it.

The tablet is the new dell venue 7".

Much appreciate any help.

Welcome to Android Central! Is the tablet running the Google Now Launcher? That is, when you swipe left from the primary homescreen, do you see Google Now? Or is it the more basic KitKat launcher, where the primary homescreen is the middle one of 5 homescreens? If it's the basic KitKat launcher, then you can't remove blank homescreens.

If it's the Google Now Launcher, and if Dell didn't modify it significantly, then a homescreen really ought to disappear once you've removed the last widget or icon. If you don't mind setting up your homescreens again, you could go to Settings>Apps>All, select Google Now Launcher, and tap Clear Data. If there was some glitchy data causing the problem, it might clear it up. Now set your homescreens up again, and now see what happens if you create a new homescreen to the right by adding a shortcut there, then removing that shortcut, and see if the homescreen disappears like it should.
