How do I restore Whatsapp with Crypt8 database on the S4?

i am using Samsung S4.I have problem with notification tones so i tried to uninstall and reinstall whatsapp to see if it can be resolved.

Unfortunately i forgot to do a backup 1st. When i reinstalled, whatsapp used an old back up file a week ago 16Nov,, instead of the latest backup this morning.

i tried several times and figured out it could be using the db file with extension crypt7,rather than the latest backup on 25 Nov , a db file with crypt8 extension.
How do i get whatsapp to call up the latest backup with crypt8 extension?

Offhand, I am not sure. Have you tried asking the developer?

¡I did it! I had the exact same problem. In my case i was using a whatsapp beta apk (before the restoring) and after restoring i used the play store version.


what i did was: download apk from oficial site on the internet , install. then whatsapp recognized the database/backup

note: i had to download and install whatsapp from pc because from my phone it send me to the play store version.

Is the reverse possible? I had backed up my whatsapp messages and they were saved in a crypt7 file. After that I did a full wipe and upgraded to Android 5.0. Now when I try to restore my messages, it says restore could not be completed.
I created a backup of the messages stored after the update, and a crypt8 file was generated. Is that what's creating the issue? and if so, how can this be fixed? I would love to have my old messages restored on to my phone.
