Title says it.

My phone is not rooted, or hacked.

Due to the GPS not working now, I want to go back to DI18, until they get the bugs fixed.

Thanks guys.

At the top of the Forums section in Samsung Epic is a title of Roms/Hacks for the Epic.

The first post is How to Factory Restore. Follow these easy to use directions to revert to 2.1.

And don't forget to push the Thanks button to those that help you.

Odin works, if you have problems switch to a different USB port, in the back if possible. It didn't work through my front jacks and scared the hell out of me because It stopped mid way.

What's the best way to backup application data before you roll back?

Are you rooted? If so you can use Titanium Backup or MyBackup. If not, I'm not aware of any way to backup application data unfortunately.

I too found froyo to be buggy then went back to 2.1 using odin. Only to find my accelerometer not working(wont switch from landscape to portrait). Sounds like rooting is the only fix? If I root 2.1 to fix problem will there be any issues with OTA install of 2.2? Had a rooted Moment. Other than that I am a noob. Any help is greatly appreciated.

2.2 -> 2.1 reverting back

Tried the leaked 2.2 update but its a little slow for me. Is there anyway to flash back to DI18 without losing everything? I am new to android

The first post tells you how to do this using Odin. I did it a few weeks ago because the leaked 2.2 was garbage in my opinion.

I believe this will wipe your phone, but the Market saves your apps (free and purchased) for redownload and if your contacts are in Exchange or Gmail... you shouldn't lose anything.

It took all of 5 minutes to reload 2.1 using the instructions in the above post. You need a Windows machine.

Edit: the link doesn't work. Go to the "Epic 4G ROMs/Hacks" thread at the very top of the Epic 4G Forum.

Samsung's response about going back to 2.1

Samsung's response via Twitter...
Samsung has not released an official 2.2 for the Epic. Users who have received
2.2 aren't using an official update from Samsung, and unfortunately we have no means of reinstalling the official DI18 Eclair software without having the phone sent to our service center for a reflash.

Say it ain't so :(

Wait, couldn't you just have the DI18 in .zip form, put it on your sd card, go into the default recovery, and just go to update via update.zip or whatever? oh and also you have to rename the file to 'update.zip'!

No can do once your on a higher version of OS. If you were on a lower version of Eclair 2.1 say (DI07) there was an "update.zip" that allowed you to upgrade to the newer OS. Same will probably apply when official Froyo drops and someone creates the update.zip from an OTA upgrade.

Once your on a higher OS like the leaked version of Froyo the only way to return to a lower version of OS is to use Odin to restore back to it by use of what they call a ".tar" file or image of the official ROM.

Quick question fellas.. I want to roll back to 2.1 for the OTA update thats should come soon. Im currently running the [ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC Edition. Does this mean, im rooted or hacked and won't allow me, to follow the odin stairway to eclair?

Seems I found my answer.

"- I have DK28 Froyo 2.2 installed will I be able to still get the official update when its released? Yes, either we will provide an update method directly from whatever version of Froyo your running (leaked stock/custom) or you can use Odin and the method found in the [How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone) section to restore stock Eclair 2.1 (DI18) and receive the OTA update."
