How do I search my call history? (Android)

I'm trying to find a way to search my phone call history. I want to see all calls made to or from a specific phone number. I'm using the built-in Phone app on my OnePlus 6T running Android 11 but I'm happy to use another app if one exists.

Welcome to AC!
If you long press that number does it give more details?

Ah-ha. Yes either long press on the number or click on the three dots and select "Call details" gives me a call history for a number. That gets me halfway there. That's useful when I called the number recently. But what if I haven't called in months or years? How do I search for a phone number in my call history?

Good question , I would have to check my 1+7 T McLaren tomorrow and get back

It looks like you're looking at the call details for a specific number. I'm trying to find the call details for a phone number in my call history. In other words, say you wanted to get the call history for 555-1234. How would you do that? You try scrolling back through the last couple of months of call history but can't find the number. You know you talked to them in the past but you don't know when. You just want to search for the number. Is there a way to do that?

That how went about it in my screenshot, when I open up to call history in the dialer I selected a number then 3 dots to the right and details it will show all the call history u had with that number

The search (magnifying glass) for me only searches for contacts in my address book, not previously called phone numbers. I see the same behavior using the search button from the call history and from the contacts screen. However, even if I added the number as a contact, that still doesn't help because I can't view the call history for a contact. Which is ridiculous. That's why I'm so perplexed by how difficult it is to see the call history for a phone number. That seems like such a basic tool to me. They couldn't have left it out. It must just be a menu somewhere and I can't find it.

I just tried the Phone app by Google. That's what I thought I was using but I guess I wasn't. I think I was using the built-in OnePlus Phone app but I'm not for sure. I couldn't find information about the app anywhere to verify who developed it. It doesn't even show up in the app list in my phone settings menu, which adds to the argument that the app is probably baked-in to the phone (of which I have a OnePlus phone).

I tried the Google Phone app a little bit. It seems to do a better job of finding matching contacts than the OnePlus Phone app but it's still a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it won't find a matching phone number unless you type the whole number or even the 1 at the beginning (to indicate a USA phone number). OnePlus's app is even fussier than the Google one but both seem pretty lazy. I'll have to play around with it some more. I suspect that OnePlus didn't take a lot of time to polish some of their apps and left out some features, or at least moreso than Google did.

I appreciate your help.
