How do I set a custom text notification from a contact on Galaxy S6?

How do I set a custom text notification from a contact on Galaxy S6? I had dedicated text notifications for specific contacts on my S4 but can't find it on the S6. I can only find how to set a custom ringtone for a contact, or set a notification for all texts.

There isn't a way on the default messaging app that I could find. but you can use a different messaging app (such as Textra, which I use) that allows for a lot more customization including custom text notifications.

you can have a custom text tone for a contact. open contacts app, find the contact you need and open it, tap on edit, scroll down and tap on add another field, tap on message tone.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm trying to figure out how to do this on an S4. Can you tell me how you were able to? I just inherited my husband's old phone because he got the S7. This is my first smart phone, but my basic phone had the ability for contacts to have their own text tone.

same way. open contacts, open the contact you need and scroll down to ringtone and message tone and if you tap on default you can change them.

So for the S7, you have to go to apps and find the orange/yellowish messages app and set it as your default app. It doesn't work with the red messages + app. Then to customize it for a specific contact, go to your contacts list and find the contact you want to change. Select edit then scroll down to where it says more. When you select more scroll all the way down the second and third options from the bottom are message tone and ring tone. When you select either one it allows you to customize the tone for that specific contact.

That options is no longer available in the latest Android. I have the Huawei Nova Plus and the "add field" option contains only a few fields. Total bummer.

It doesn't work with the red messages + app.

I can customize text notifications in the messages + app.

Open a text from the contact, or start a new one.

In the upper right click the three dots.

Select "Customize" from the menu.

Third option is "Tones". Select this and change the sound here.
