how do I simply delete/edit a contact?

There's no three verticle dots anywhere. All I access is show in photos. The only place I see 3 verticle dots is when I enter the app/whatever to make a phone call by pressing the icon that looks like a phone, but those 3 dots lead me to phone settings of no help.

According to reviews I looked up on the web, the ZTE Awe should have 3 capacitative buttons for Back, Home, and Menu just below the lower edge of the screen--I can see them in that first picture you posted. The Menu button is the one on the right. That's the Menu button you should try pressing to see if anything comes up. If a device has capacitative buttons, the software usually knows not to include a 3 vertical dot soft menu button.

^ bingo, the button on the phone (not the screen) that I aparently never knew existed does it. Thanks.
But I still can't figure out how to lock the screen and not allow it to answer incomings and show who's calling. I think texts might display also when it's locked which I don't want.

Glad you found the menu button, but now I'm not entirely sure what you mean about locking the screen. You can select your screen timeout (i.e., how long before the screen shuts off if the phone is idle) under Settings/Display, and you can select how long to wait after the screen shuts off before the phone requires the unlock PIN or pattern under Settings/Lock Screen. There's also an option there to make the Power button instantly lock the phone.

Now, when the screen is locked, you say you don't want to "allow it to answer incomings"--are you saying you don't want it to ring and only show caller ID? It should always show a caller ID when ringing.

Yeah, I know the first paragraph ^
My old phone (borderline not a smart phone) didn't show who was calling when it was locked and I want this one like that. I did some googling and some phones can change how much is shown when the phone's locked. I can even answer the call when the phone is locked but don't see a settings options to change this.

It'd be nice to call the phone if it's locked and lost then found and if the person who found it is nice (although they could probably mail it to the branded service provider then be reimbursed for postage and I should end up with the phone eventually, plus there are tracking apps), but, maybe there's an app that can block iincoming calls and caller id when locked. it's not a big deal if no one knows a quick solution, I'll probably eventualyl figure it out if it's possible.

That's a tough one--I don't think I have an answer for that. Good luck!

oh oh !! i faced the same problem.. the other day i switch on nd switch off my mobile. After this i was able to edit or delete contacts.. i wz frustrate for simple thing .thnk u

Bauhn - 5" Dual SIM Smartphone and others with a built in menu button

The menu button on my phone is the one that looks like two cascading screens at the bottom left of the phone face (not the active touch screen).

If your phone has a menu button open the contact card you want to edit, select and hold the menu button and an options menu will appear. Edit will be one of the options.

OMG, thank you, how did I miss that, brain cramp:-\! when I activated new Moto X 2nd gen on Republic Wireless my home screen did not have the contacts/people app, so I also kept trying to edit from dialer app...I have rooted, flashed ROMS, etc. in past....but missed this simplest thing...wow...that was driving me crazy until I remembered why I joined this excellent Android community back in the day...

Thank you. That's all I needed to know. Why do things have to be made so complicated.

1. Hold finger on contact to be deleted.
2. Select Delete.

Simple - when you know where it is.

The second photo I uploaded is what you're saying should show the pencil icon, but it's not there (eventhough the bottom section of the screen shot isn't shown).

"You're tapping (pressing for about a second or less?) the name of the contact, right? Long-press it (hold it down for about 3 seconds). When you let go, a menu will pop up."

Both methods bring up the same menu which is the second screen shot I posted.

I'm begining to think I got a defected /buggy phone or something. I got it right after it was released. I updated all the options in system updates (PRL, Profile ZTE software etc), but it's the same. I contacted virgin mobile and linked this thread to see what they say about this and possibly a warranty replacement phone.

All I can do is shown in the photos (add photo per contact, copy # to clipboard etc).

I'm having the same problem. When I touch and hold a number or a contact to edit, there is no pencil or dots, just the Star. I have tried everything I can think of for 2 days and I'm stuck. Any other advice?

Check your phone. Do you see buttons below your phone's screen? One of these buttons should be the menu button on your phone. Once you are in the screen of the contact that you want to edit, just press that button and you should be able to edit.

I have been having the same problem deleting a contact. Looking in the edit menu (3 stacked horizontal lines) the only options while in a contact are:
- Share
- Join
- Export
- Add to Home screen

There are NO buttons for "delete" contact anyway (believe me, I've looked.)

@Aragorn Stellar if you've tried what my link suggests.. then you'll have to access each contact separately and search for remove or delete contact option that way.. Lastly IF you've been connect to your Google drive etc you're contacts would also be there. so no matter how hard you delete them from your device.. your your Goolge account still have these contact your device would simply reload them once again.
