How do I stop Android restoring all my settings to my Desire HD??

Hi all

How do I stop Android restoring all my old settings to my Desire HD after I do a factory reset??
I've just done a reset and much to my annoyance when I log into my Google account during first setting up the handset my Wi-Fi and all my other settings have been restored along with all the Apps that I had installed.
The reason I did a reset was to get every thing back to factory settings in the first place.
I've posted in the Desire HD thead and they suggested I try here for a answer.

Go into privacy in the settings and make sure back up data is unchecked.

Do you think that it is possible, that it takes 24-48 hours for the settings saved on the Google servers to be deleted??

Hi again
I'm still having problems.
I've been into the Privacy Settings on my phone and unchecked both " Back up my settings" and "Automatic restore" but the handset is still downloading all my old settings and apps after a Factory Reset and once I log into my Google account. I have even tried leaving it a a day or two just incase it takes some time for the data to be removed from the Google Backup servers.
Any help would be much appreciated. This is driving me mad.
