AC Question

I started using a Nexus 6P in March, switched over from an Apple 5S. I don't want my Inactive Contacts (there are 88) to appear on the phone and need to know how to do that.

I'm OK with computers but am not a techie, so I need instructions that can be easily understood.

Thanks very much,
Audrey

If they're Google contacts (first line when editing a contact), they're at Google Contacts and you can delete them easier using a browser in a computer. (Check the box to the left of the contacts you want deleted, click Delete at the top dropdown, go to the next page of contacts, repeat until done.) (You could delete them in the phone, but that could take hours.)

If they're not Google contacts, export your contacts to a file, import the file as Google contacts, sync contacts. Now go to the link above, hit More, Merge and if you have duplicates, THEN delete the unwanted ones. (Android phones should ALWAYS use Google contacts.)

Yes, the inactive contacts are in my Google Contacts. I don't want to delete them from Google Contacts, I just don't want them to appear on the Nexus. How can I filter them out?

Thanks,
Audrey

Are they in a group called "inactive"? If so, you can modify your contacts/people app to show only certain groups, removing the "inactive" group from view.

Yes, they are in a group/folder called "inactive". However, I don't see anywhere in Google Contacts to modify what I'm viewing. Where would I find that?

Thank you again,
Audrey

In the Contacts app, tap the 3-dot menu in the top right, tap Contacts to display, tap customize. Tap the down-arrow next to the account to expand it and select the groups as appropriate.
