Android Central Question

I have just purchased and fitted a pioneer SPH-DA230DAB head unit. When using the unit to navigate with either google maps or Waze, the GPS signal is lost as soon as the Phone goes to sleep.
I have turned off the maps app and android auto app in the battery settings power savings menu so at this point, I'm stumped as to what to do next.
This is presumably a setting within the phone that allows the continued use of the phones GPS permanently but I don't know which settings.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

In battery settings, set the phone to not lock when charging, then keep it plugged in when you're in the car. There's no "Never" in the screen lock times. (The other way is installing Proximity Service - if you have the phone placed so the proximity detector is triggered [face down, in a holster, etc.], the screen blanks out, but it never actually goes off - so the GPS receiver should keep supplying data.)

(Maps should keep the phone awake if it's navigating - mine always has, and I've been using it for years. I don't know about Waze, but I would assume that any nav app would keep the screen on while it's navigating.)

I started having the same issue with my Galaxy S7 Active this past weekend and just found what the problem was after reading your post. It had always worked without issue and just started that any time the screen went off, Android Auto lost the GPS signal. I went to change the settings as you said to not lock when charging and got a message that the setting wasn't available in power saving mode (medium). I forgot that I had put it into power saving mode... I took it out of power saving mode (without any other changes) and it's back to working fine.

This post saved me endless frustration with sync. My contacts and calendars haven't been syncing from my phone to Google for several months. I discovered tonight that if I start contacts syncing but the screen goes off, when I turn it back on again, the sync operation has been halted. I've been searching and reading for hours about this problem. I finally found this post, and turned off battery saver. Instantly, my contacts and calendars starting syncing again, and this time continued until finished.

Thank you!
