How do I stop the phone screen coming over the top of Google maps when navigating?

When I'm driving using Google maps is there a way to stop the phone screen from coming over top of the maps screen?
It would be great if the map screen stays on but I can still take the call (using Bluetooth device).

Try this: go to Settings->Apps, then scroll through the list until you find your Phone app (it may be called Dialer depending on your phone model). Scroll to the bottom and see whether "Draw over other apps" is set to "Yes" (I suspect it is).

But you may have problems answering calls when you're not connected to Bluetooth if the phone app isn't allowed to overwrite others.
