I have a terrible signal where I'm at and 4G just doesn't work here. It won't stay on 3G. I want it to stay on 3G.

Thanks.

There is an app called LTE On/Off for HTC Thunderbolt. It works for the Maxx, too.

Install that app. Open it, go past the license screen. The main display is a bit of an eye chart, but scroll down and you will see a button that says "Turn off radio". Don't tap that, but just above is the setting that you want to change the phone to 3G only.

Change it from "LTE/CDMA/EvDO" to "CDMA Auto (PRL)".

Just note that each time you restart the phone, you need to change this setting.

Be careful assuming 3G will get you better signal than 4G LTE. I tried the LTE On/Off app, switched to 3G, and quickly realized my signal (and thus my battery) were better on the 4G LTE network. Keep in mind Verizon has put all of its resources into improving the LTE network.
