How do I transfer photos FROM an SD card and save ?

I have recently bought a Lenovo A8-50F tablet. I have connected an SD card via a card reader and OTG link, the test photos displayed on the screen but I could not work out how to place them in a file. I eventually disconnected the card reader, and not only did the photos disappear from the tablet, but were also wiped from the card. Any advice welcome, please

Use a file Explorer like solid Explorer to copy the pictures into the internal memory
