How do I turn off automatic audio playing when connecting to earphones?

[Android Central Question]

This is so annoying and can't find a solution, it's happening with any audio app that's been recently used, Audible, PowerAmp, etc.
And with any earphone or external audio connection, plugged in jack and Bluetooth.

Close your background apps as the apps you are referring to are still running so will recognise when the headphones are conneceted

I use Google Play Music app and that is in the app settings.

You need to check the settings for the apps that are turning on. For instance, Power Amp has (or used to have) settings for resume on wired headset and resume on bluetooth. Many of these settings are on by default. Audible does as well.
