How do I turn off screen overlays?

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

Jeez what a pain. It shouldn't be so difficult but what ended up working for me in the end was getting rid of "game tools"

I had tried some of the other stuff mentioned and don't have any clean master stuff so if you're in my boat and have game tools on that may be the problem for you too

Welcome to Android Central! Can you show us screenshots? http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ide-how-post-screenshots-android-central.html

Are these screen overlays static, or is there constantly changing data associated with them? It might be a Developer Option that you turned on somehow. Go to Settings>Developer Options, and see if anything there is checked on. Uncheck them, or just turn off Developer Options. Do those things disappear?

I tried all those things and they don't work

Hi all, new to the forum but just found another solution to this as well.

If, like me, the developer option solution did not work for you, try this:

Settings>Applications>Application Manager>More>Draw Over Other Apps

Turn off all third party apps, (other than the one you are attempting to use) such as emoji keyboards ot anything that could take priority from the very front of the screen.

Hope this helps :)

WOW. After researching this for days, "Clean Master" was the issue!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!!

I have a Galaxy S7 & tried everything listed above, and either I didn’t have the app or feature the person was talking about, or it simply didn’t work. Started thinking I should have bought an IPhone. But I hit upon the solution!
Go to settings>Applications>Application Manager> and I proceeded to open each application (except for various system apps that came with the phone, and force stop each, except for the one I was trying to make a change to. Opened the app, and made the change easily. Not the most efficient use of my time, but it worked! Good luck!

Hi, im using huawei P9lite, i am having this same problem. I dont have any CM app to remove. I also off the developer option. But nothing changed. Pls some body help me to get rid of it.

After following all the solutions here (short of the factory reset and uninstalling the Clean Master apps (don't have any)) I'm still having issues with this screen overlay. I'm just trying to access a pdf of my credit card statements, and I can't open them because in order to do so I have to give all the permissions to the Google Drive pdf viewer, and before I do that, I have to "turn off screen overlay." Nothing seems to be working. Please help! I don't want to factory reset. I have a Galaxy S6 Edge.

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

I found it worked as soon as I closed fb messenger.

Great information. Turned on the developer options but was no option to turn over screen overlays. CM is not installed. I did just go to Application PopUps, etc settings and turned them all off. I received no more errors regarding screen overlays.

After the LG G4 update on Friday I had this issue with several apps. I spent 3 hours at the verizon store today luckily with a very patient person. He finally found that the clean master app was the problem. After hours of trying to fix it and being on the phone with several different customer support people he saw the clean master and said I bet this caused a virus. He deleted it and sure enough, my pictures, calendar and mail were working correctly. They were not opening and saying that I hate overlays being detected. I would try and fix it and it would just keep looping back to the overlay detected screen. If you have a cleaning app delete it, restart your phone and see if everything works again.

I uninstalled clean master also and it took care of my problem with the overlay. Many thanx

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

Somehow I've managed to get two screen overlays on my phone. They are smaller semi-grayed out copies of the real screen. There is also a thin white line at the top of the screen telling the sizes of the overlays. I have uninstalled almost every app on my phone even though I don't have anything that I installed right before this happened. I have also gone through almost every setting (I say almost because there's always one more on this phone not because I didn't get every last one I know about.)
I'm going in for a knee replacement on Monday and then to rehap and I'd like to have a USABLE phone if they let me have it - they will at rehap at least (I think).
Anyone know how I shot myself in the foot?

Thanks!

Hey I've been having this problem for weeks with only quick fixes.I found that Uninstaller during battery or battery doctor and 360 security and cm locker did the job!! Cm locker was hidden and I had to search hard but now my phone works fine!! YouTube has some good fixes to.:)

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

Hello,
This overlay problem happen to me also after updating my phone to android 6.0. However I resolved this issue. Follow these steps to solve.
1. Goto settings
2. Applications->advanced->draw over other apps
3. Then what you have to do is.. in some mobiles there is an option when u click on below or the top corner list. That option is 'open system processes'.
4. Select that , now disable the overlay for all the apps shown.
5. Now goto whatsapp or which application that asked for turn off overlay.

Now u can enable the storage, camera, contacts and all.

And onemore thing after giving permissions for your app. Come back to the overlay window and enable all the necessary apps ..remember one thing now dont click on the reset option... if u do that again u have to follow from beginning.
If u find it useful please let me know.
Thanq
