How do I turn off screen overlays?

Thanks for the info, it worked! I don't have CM or the other apps everyone else was talking about. Your suggestion to look for something that stays on the screen was helpful. I'd pinned a SNote to my home screen...that was the culprit! Deleted it and restarted the phone for giggles and now it's working fine! Thanks again!

"after trying everything else... you juts need to remove all the CM apps and the screen overlay will vanish finally "
great thanks that really helped

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

If you have a blue light filter, shut it off and the problem goes away.

This is genius I could not for the life me figure it out I was already in developer options and my screen over lays was already off so I can understand what was going on. Turns out this was the solution for me I have a cold Twilight at turns on a screen filter night time as soon as I uninstalled it damn it worked thank you so much how did you figure this one out

Samsung did not do very well to clarify how to address this issue. I found that this did the trick on S7: Settings → Applications → Application Manager (top) → Apps that can appear on top (top right button drop-down menu) → then go down the list and start swiping all the turned-on buttons OFF (from right-position to left).
Restart phone. Try again to set permissions like before; should work now. Once that's done, you can go back to Application Manager and switch back any buttons to previous setting without consequence.

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

Thank you , you save me many hours of debugging, I was facing this issue from last 2 days and was searching for solution. After uninstalling "Clean Master" which i was using from years, it solved the problem.

Thank u so much. For last 2 days I was unable to use instagram. But after uninstalling "Clean Master", everything is back in action.

i recently updated my android to marshmallow and this things happen to me.. what i did is just simple.

1. go to setting
2. click apps
3. click advanced
4. click app permission
5. just click the item u want your apps to be allowed

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

Somehow I've managed to get two screen overlays on my phone. They are smaller semi-grayed out copies of the real screen. There is also a thin white line at the top of the screen telling the sizes of the overlays. I have uninstalled almost every app on my phone even though I don't have anything that I installed right before this happened. I have also gone through almost every setting (I say almost because there's always one more on this phone not because I didn't get every last one I know about.)
I'm going in for a knee replacement on Monday and then to rehap and I'd like to have a USABLE phone if they let me have it - they will at rehap at least (I think).
Anyone know how I shot myself in the foot?

Thanks!

Not sure if this works for yall' but I had the same issue on my note 4. The dcreen overlay kept me from accessing my photos or ability to post photos as well. Phone kept for permissions to access photos, and kept looping disable the screen overly but it seemed one cancel out the other. So I finally figured the flipboard app was the only thing that was on top of the screen at times. So I uninstalled it and noticed that the side key panel was on. I turned it off and my phone suddenly started working the way it was meant too.

I turned off developer options but that did not turn off overlays. I turned developer options back on and started the app I was having trouble with, but just got the loading, loading, loading...I'm going to restart my phone and hope that fixes it.

Re: Screen overlays == How do I turn them off. Help!!!

If you have cleanmaster try uninstalling it. There are some apps that causing it. Maybe you should try to figure which app is causing the problem if this doesnt work

Okay, after going through this and that. I simply closed the Facebook Messenger Chats that I had open. Once I did that, I stopped getting the overlay issues message. I turned on permissions for the app I was trying to use. Now I have to figure out how to go back and turn off the developer mode.

THANKS! I tried all other options and nothing worked until I closed my fb chat head lol!

I have had this issue several times because I use several apps that have issues being used both as a screen overlay and for various other things at the same time, so my G4 will ask me to turn off the overlay settings so it can do whatever task it wants to do without the overlay. To change this (on or off) the correct way is to go to Settings> General Tab> Apps> Select Settings Icon (it's the three dots at the top, right hand corner of the screen)> Draw Over Other Apps> Then you can go through and either turn everything on, off or only turn on select apps. If your phone notifies you that there's a problem, it will usually give you the option to go straight to the Screen Overlay menu so you don't have to navigate yourself all the way there. But this is how you get to it if that isn't an option for whatever reason.
The G4 hasn't always had this feature and I personally hate it and it makes me really dislike my phone. I've been using LG smartphones for years because I love the multitasking capabilities and as a photographer, I especially enjoy the camera, but the screen overlay settings really ruin it and I'm even considering changing phones because it's such a frequent issue and I need to use the overlay with a couple of apps that I rely on heavily, so that one feature has really changed how I feel about my phone in a negative way. (Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone from LG sees this).

After days of frustration with screen overlay on my Gs6edge+ I finally found you guys who advised me to remove Clean Master, and immediately after doing so it worked perfectly, thank you guys I appreciate it!

I also have the Samsung Galaxy s6,and having the same Screen over lay problems, and my phone keeps getting hot,not warm.I was told to take it to The sprint store.so that what I'm going to do.
