How do I unlock my wifes HTC?

Htc ***locked (oow)***

Can someone please help with this? My wife tried to turn on her HTC Android and got this message that I cant seen to clear:

HBOOT USB

I tried to arrow down & select RECOVERY & it seemed to try and boot. But now it's sitting at a screen with a picture of the HTC with a red triangle the has a red exclamation point. And help would be great!!!
