How do you care for your phone?

out of curiosity.. and what do you think is the best way?

do you restart your phone often, restore it every few months, clean out old photos & rid of messages.. & use "cleaner" apps?

i go through phones quickly, and i just wonder if its because of how i care for my phone. some people say daily/weekly reboots aren't necessary, but some people take the time to do it as well.

i generally only do a big/major clean of my phone once space gets low & when its noticeably running a little slow.. which sometimes is too late.
i attempted to use a "cleaner" app at several points but i find it makes my phone lag more..

I restart my phones at least once per month, but that is because I clear the system cache in recovery. My daily driver is on a weekly check for updates and when it does update, I clear at least that cache and dalvik so that one probably gets restarted about once per week.

I clean out photos once per month by backing up and deleting. I don't use cleaner apps. I found the same thing: they are counterproductive.

I uninstall apps and themes when I think of it, sometimes twice in one week, sometimes not for months.

I restart the phone when I need to, to go to recovery for some reason, a soft restart of Android (adding an Xposed module usually requires a restart). I don't restart it because I think restarting will accomplish anything but wasting my time and the phone's battery life..

I turn the phone off when I swap batteries (about once a month, or when the battery in the phone starts dropping below 50% charge and I can't get to an outlet). Otherwise it can be on for weeks at a time.

Since I haven't run under about 9GB of free internal space on this phone (a Note 3), I've never "cleaned it out" to gain space, but since I run Safestrap and have only a 32GB SD card, I sometimes clean out a few Safestrap slots I'm not using to gain some space. (I'll back up the current ROM before I make a major change, just in case. I recently discovered that I'm no longer infallible.)

On the subject of cleaner apps, if it says anything about cleaning RAM, I don't even read further. That tells me that the "developer" - someone who learned how to write apps (that's not a developer, it's not even a code monkey) - doesn't understand how Android works, so I'm not going to let one of his abominations near my phone. If it cleans cache, I can do that myself. If it cleans apps, I may want an app I use only once every 6 months to stay on the phone. I'm the best cleaner app ever written - for my phone. You're the best one for your phone. No app can know what I consider unwanted. I use Application manager and ES File Explorer as my "cleaner" apps. (Or adb or Terminal Emulator, if I'm in a Linux frame of mind.)

I have a Dropbox with a 1TB of space so any photos and videos are always on there. My movies are transfered to my external 2TB on a weekly basis. Contacts are always backed up so I wipe it every 2 months or so. I also let my phone die once a week consistently and let it charge up all the way before turning it on. My battery has always appreciated this.

This is very, very bad for your battery. Be cautious ever letting it get near to dying.

I clean out my storage once in a while (manually, I don't like cleaner apps), but that's about it. I only restart if there's a problem, and I've never had to restore.

And Spock is right about the battery thing, though to say it's very bad may be an overstatement. Lithium ion batteries don't like to be drained. The draining procedure is a holdover from older battery tech; it isn't true anymore. It's not going to be catastrophic, but it's best to avoid when possible.

I care for my phone by throwing it on the counter at the end of the day, throwing it around the truck when I'm driving around, throwing it around the job site (construction), wiping cement off of it when we're doing foundation, paint when we're painting, thinset when we're tiling, throwing it around the room when I get a call from an irritating customer...and it's still ticking...in a slim case LOL!!

hahaha a trooper. what phone do you own?

Yeah, this is a very good topic to share how you take care your phones because I seldom take care my phone delicately. But I believe that I should. So I m excited to learn something from your sharing. So be generous to share. lol.

exactly.

i go THROUGH phones and have been nagged that its the way i use it/treat it.. though i do nothing more than texting & internet browsing and sometimes listening to music.. and i wrap it up in all protective cases and treat it like a baby.. !

It's an old GS3. It's a bit pokey with TW but it still gets the job done and I can say it's one tough cookie. It's never had a Otterbox style case on it, just a Elago Breathe slim fit jobber and it's still ticking. I'll wait to see what offerings the new year brings then jump, it'll be time for sure. I just hope the new one is built as tough as the GS3 is.

wow thats nice! cant wait until more companies get back on board with making lasting & strong phones..

Here are some tips i use for keeping my phone at good performance.
Keep my android phone fully charged,
Use some memory management software,
Always close unused apps and processes,
Clear the browser cache,
Delete cookies and unused programs or media.

Constantly draining to no charge gives you about 300 charge cycles. Constantly draining to 50% charge gives you about 1,500 charge cycles. Maybe not a catastrophe, but pretty bad on the wallet (especially with phones that have to go to the shop for new $90 batteries).

I also avoid cleaning apps and task managers since they don't really improve performance. Other than that, I only reboot when necessary, don't let battery get too low, freeze rarely used apps, uninstall apps I don't need, use wakelock detector and greenify, clean cache in custom recovery and keep backup of stock firmware and custom ROM in case I need to restore. I use the same process for each of my devices ( G2, Moto G, S3, S2 Skyrocket, N7, Tab 4) and all are in like new working condition. Also use good screen protectors and cases.

It is also good to backup data and do factory reset once a year.. it boosts speed..

i hear for phones.. 6 months is a long time to own one?

like if you're upset over a phone dying at 6 months old, most people will tell you thats just common.
