How do you feel about getting the Xoom on contract

I have a Clear Ispot that I use with my ipad. The clear plan is $25.00 month-to-month. It may be a wash for me also depending how much the Verizon plan is.

Why not just use wifi tether for those times when you don't have wifi?

I will, using my Mytouch 4G. I just will use the Verizon plan as a back up if I need it. I don't plan on signing up with it unless I have to. If the Verizon plan is around the same as the Clear plan, I won't mine doing it because it's within my budget already.

Either way, I won't sign a contract and just get the tablet full price. I'm assuming this is the way it will be with this tablet.

I hope it's as easy as it is on the Ipad. If you want to use the 3G, you can sign up right on the device and quit anytime you like.

Will 4G allow web access AND voice calls simultaneously?

I need a data card to have both now.
Yes, Verizon LTE will allow simultaneous voice and data. Somehow or another, the HTC Thunderbolt will actually allow simultaneous voice and data over 3G! Weird.

That last part is incorrect. There is no way, technologically, that Sprint's or Verizon's current 3G CDMA implementation can support simultaneous voice and data. The Thunderbolt will only allow that when also connected to 4G.
Well, I'm not incorrect, but thanks for playing.

From Verizon internal document:
HTC Thunderbolt 3G Simultaneous Voice & Data

There is functionality in the Thunderbolt that allows simultaneous voice and data while on the VZW 3G network, however, we cannot promise the experience will be one that is consistent with our brand. As a result, do not reference this functionailty as a benefit during your conversations with customers.

Now that you're done reading that, google "SVDO", which could be how it's possible.

I'm comfortable with my phone at the moment - maybe when the price lower then I'd probably think about it.

We'll see whose right in the end. Wouldn't be the first time they didn't know what they were talking about. I still stand by the fact that you will need 4G or WiFi for simultaneous voice and data and thats probably what they meant. The whole not being consistent thing could be the fact that 4G isn't everywhere so it wouldn't work everywhere. That makes more sense to me than Verizon implementing a technology that is half baked (edit: not the tech itself but their implementation) and doesn't always work.

I will be the first to admit my interpretation was wrong once we get some hard proof showing that.

And now that your done being a dbag, maybe you could go back and read my post where i say "Verizon's current 3G CDMA implementation". If they finally rolled out SVDO believe me it would be huge news that they wouldn't want to hide. Not to mention that I doubt it would be backwards compatible with current chips. And that there is no reason to implement it now after all these years when they are finally starting to roll out LTE which will replace 3G in a few years.

I love people that stay in denial, even when presented with proof. People being trained on the device confirmed it, which was followed by the Verizon documentation stating it.

Whatever, I could care less. I'm not getting the Thunderbolt, but I'm ready for my Xoom.

i also have a data only plan with a usb modem. do you think the usb modem could be used with a female usb to micro usb cable?

So about a $200 savings for the minimum of a $480 contract ($20/mo @ 24months).

I would hope for about a $300 reduction, but at least this will be an option for someone who is looking to get a long term data plan. Will this make people who are thinking long term contract hesitate on pre-order?

I ordered mine from wirefly with a 3gb plan for $35/month. They have a 30 day price guarantee, so if the price drops, my card will automatically be credited back the difference. I don't think i would ever get a subsidized tablet. I feel like I'll be trading it in way to frequently to commit to 2 years with a carrier.

I would consider a subsidized Xoom for $599 on a 1year contract. For a 2 year it would have to be lower priced.

So where will the Xoom ship to...your home or verizon? I'm worried about going to bestbuy Sunday & pre-ordering then going there Thursday night to pick it up only to find out they sold out during the day while i was at work !!!

I've never used wirefly but if they're legit & can ship it to me or verizon then i would order it right now !
