how do you feel about the htc vigor to replace thunderbolt?

Until OS and software both support dual core the real world results won't live up to marketing hype.

Couldn't agree more. Add to that the substantial amount of system memory reserved solely to support the second processor.

There is one reason that I would not be hasty to jump to a new LTE phone at first chance, and its the same reason we have had the majority of issues with the Thunderbolt: eHRPD.

No new LTE devices that I have seen can do simultaneous Voice+Data over 3G. Only 4G, which means I will stick with the Thunderbolt until I never leave 4G.

BTW eHRPD hasnothing to do with SVDO. Indeed, an Tbolt will do simultaneous voice and data over EVDO. The reason is that the tbolt, unlike other LTE devices, The tbolt has a separate radio for 1X (which carries voice) and another for 3G/4G. See AnandTech - HTC Thunderbolt Review: The First Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone. eHRPD allows the tbolt to maintain its IP address during 4G/3G handoffs, among other things.

If you change the TBolt to "CDMA RevA" will it still do Voice/Data simultaneously?

Well I'm definitely excited to see the replace device is as high end as this. Dual core and HD display are great and the top of my list. Only other thing I want to know is how big the battery is. Knowing HTC, its, going to be tiny. I also hope this is the the new Krait processor and the new, more efficient, 4G modem.

Re: how do you feel about the htc vigor to replace thunderbolt???

Doesn't bother me. Phone won't be anything special until Ice Cream Sandwhich comes out. And by that time, it'll be close to february when my upgrade is. And by that time, a better HTC phone will be coming.

No disrespect but I don't get why so many think the next OS is suppose to make any difference, the same expectations was put on Froyo and Gingerbread. The OS may add some improvements but I haven't seen any improvements that really made any superior over the other..

We all assume those updates would bring improvements. This time is different though because Google actually came out and said how big this update is. Its a complete overhaul in not just the UX, but the underlining coding and operations. There's already apps that take advantage of dual core tech and now the OS will. Technically people say it does already and that is true, but it can be some better.

frank? If you change the TBolt to "CDMA RevA" how do you do that?

If you do NOT have MR2...
-------------------------------------

Download "Phone Info" from the Market, select "Preferred Network Type", and change to CDMA auto (PRL). Backout with the [Return] key.

Or.. .Dial... *#*#4636#*#* and select the same thing. Backout with the [Return] key.

Change back to CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto to recover to the default.

If you DO have MR2
-------------------------------

Menu | Settings | Wireless and Networks | Mobile Network(s) | Network Mode | Select whichever you like.

Check for success using: Menu | Settings | About Phone | Network, and check "Mobile Network type" to see if it says what you think you set it to.

I'm quite happy but the TBolt but I have to admit to being a bit surprised that it is getting replaced so quickly! Talk about a short life span! The Vigor looks like it will be an impressive phone. My next upgrade is not until Nov 2012. I am in no rush since, by then, there will be some other superphone out. As long as the TBolt works, I'm happy. Besides, I could always sell it and get a Vigor if I really wanted to.

The TB looked better on paper than what was delivered, I see no reason the Vigor will be any different.

Side note: Verizon is advertizing the Thunderbolt again on TV in my area.

The vigor is what the Tbolt should of been as far as spec. I doubt that its going to have troubles of the Tbolt. We got the experimental version. A damn shame that in August we still running on 2.2

I admit after getting the TB and then seeing what came out on other carriers in the form of the EVO3D and Sensation I was not a happy camper. But now, after rooting and installing a 2.3 ROM (can't believe I waited so long to do that) and then getting Skype and Netflix among many great apps, and upping my battery capacity I have to say that as appealing as the Vigor's specs are...I am not really seeing the need to dump the TB for it. I really enjoy using my phone now.:)

For those of you who are eligible for upgrade, comes October 5 or 6, the Vigor should be available (or so they said, according to the pic)

Notice that there's another HTC coming out besides and before the Vigor.

I'm locked into a contract for the TB, so the Vigor doesn't impact me directly -- I'm not jumping ship anytime soon.

HOWEVER, the big question for me is what impact will the Vigor's release have on the development community? Right now, the TB enjoys tremendous developer support and a robust set of alternative ROMs. If a significant number of developers abandon the TB platform for the Vigor, the TB's attractiveness will certainly decline.

Look at the OG droid, it's still getting love from devs. I think the goodies will be there for awhile.

Lets be honest, how many people here plan on keeping ANY cell phone forever?

Most people don't keep their "beloved" phones for more than a year or two - some people on these forums buy a new phone every time one gets released.

Besides, if you REALLY love your phone, other models wouldn't matter - would they? :)
