how do you move apps to the sd card?

For any parents out there. Check out an app called Life 360 if you haven't yet

It allows you to gps locate any phone in your family once a connection is set up. Great for keeping track of where your kid's are :)

Also allows you to see any sexual offenders living in your area and there crime.

I love this app

LOL... was this supposed to be in a new thread? This seems a bit off topic. :-P

I downloaded app2sd app and am able to move games from internal storage to sd card with no problems

Check it again. It's going to the phone storage, not the external storage. It's part of ICS. Even though app2sd says it's going to the sd card...it's actually going the phone storage.

After coming from the OG Evo and Evo 3D, this phone storage issue was probably the most confusing thing about the Evo 4GLTE. Didn't realize it was simply an Android thing. Ugh.

It confuses a lot of folks. That's y see a lot threads when a new phone comes out.

Great little app! When you download a new app and after it installs to the phone it will send you a message in your task bar linking you right the window to move it right away. You can also pick a ton of them at a time to move as well. (Granted I have yet to install it on my HOX because I have no SDcard.)

Hope it helps...

Cheers!

But the "problem" is that it does not REALLY move apps to the REAL SD card anymore (since ICS and new phones), it will just move them to the internal storage on the phone as pointed out in several of the comments regarding the App itself

App2SD was great for me with the OG Evo since I was running out of space and it was a much easier way to move Apps over to the (true) SD card and back again if needed, but with the EVO LTE, I'm not sure it is that useful anymore.

Agreed. I think it's causing problems for me as well. I'm trying to open programs that I've installed and moved to the phone storage, but when I click on the icon, it says "Application is not installed". Is this happening to anyone else?

Well, here's my first real disappointment with the EVO :(

What's with the way Android handles external storage anyway? I mean, a folder inside the internal storage partition? That seems half baked...

Agreed. It is pretty lame putting it under a subdirectory. But that is an Android decision, not HTC, not Sprint.

Even worse is NOT being able to use USB Mass Storage on EITHER of the internal storage partitions. Thank goodness for Airdroid.

@heyyu: I had that happen once. I rebooted the phone and so far it has not done it again.

@all: This is not an issue as much as you think. The system sees the physical SD card as a folder in the app storage. "/sdcard/ext_sd".

The system also automatically maps the physical SD card "/sdcard/ext_sd" as "/sdcard2"

A lot of apps allow you to choose where its data can be located so you can simply choose the /sdcard/ext_sd/Whatever_folder. OR "/sdcard2/Whatever_folder" These are exactly the same.

I moved my Titanium backups to /sdcard/ext_sd/TitaniumBackup. I freed up 2GB of data that was being stored under /sdcard/ for backups. On my old Evo it was just stored directly on the SD card.

If it is a huge app or game and won't allow you to choose then you are out of luck for now but it may not remain that way. A lot of apps may be updated to allow you to choose its storage location.

I am also fairly sure someone could write a utility, may require root, to redirect data on an app by app basis to the "/sdcard/ext_sd" if "/sdcard/" is accessed. It could simply run in the background. It would simply have to append "/ext_sd" to read/writes.

Hell I am not complaining, we get an extra 9GB on top of whatever we have free on the (Physical) PSD card i:Di

I was endlessly frustrated with being hemmed in on the old Evo, especially because even now, a lot of apps won't let you move them anywhere. That damned "low space" icon made me want to spike the phone some days.

After that, 2 gigs already feels luxurious, and that's without even moving any of the apps that are properly behaved. Moving some, and the fact that everything else can go on the SD card, I don't think I'll fill up 12 gigs with apps in a year or two, unless app bloat really picks up the pace.

A Workable Solution (in my humble opinion) is to have Google designate Games as Media instead of Apps. That way they get moved to SD (along with there giant files) like Pictures, Music, etc. That's the Workable Solution, it is not the Current Situation.

Copy a game (.APK file) from pc to sd card. how can I install this game , or it is not posible to do it from sd card??? I get a "Parse error" when I try.
Thanks..

If that is an illegal copy of a copyrighted, commercial game?

Generally, you can install an APK from anywhere it can be seen in a file manager (such as Astro), as long as "unknown sources" is checked under Settings->Security.

This is way off the topic. This subject doesn't belong here period.
