how do you stop google maps from updating

Ever since the last update to google maps, I have been removing the updates, every few days, I do not like the new map system ( Why do you need to do 5 things when two used to do the same thing? )

It ALWAYS updates, how do I stop this.

Go to Google Play, find Google Maps, hit the Menu Button (if you have one, if not there should be an equivalent overflow button) and remove the "Auto update" option.
