How do you use custom ringtones?

I can do it for individual contacts, but in Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone, it's just a list of pre-installed ringtones. I tried putting them in a few specific directories some places said to, but that didn't work.

Thanks.

u could just place a new folder in the root of your sd card, android will recognize it as music or whatever and it should give u a new option to choose music or system sounds after...

Nope, I have tons of songs/ringtones on my sd card. They show up in "Music" but not under ringtones, and nothing has ever popped up to ask me if I want to add things, and there's no option in the file browser to add it either.

When setting my ringtone, if I use GO sms instead of Android system, it lets me select from other sources. I'm sure handcent would do the same.

Oh weird it started working. I guess it just needed to refresh the list or something. Thanks everybody!

I use Handscent SMS and it lets you use any music for any notification including ringtones!

Sorry..new to this keyboard. I meant "how to make a folder in my SD card"

@bosstown: Hey bro, you just go to: My Files--> Menu-->Create Folder-->New folder name: Ringtones!!!

Then you can add any music file you want to use as your ringtone to that folder and it should show up in the phone ringtone list.

Hope that helps

:)

I downloaded a ringtone to my pc that I'd like to use as a notification ringtone when an event in the calendar comes up. I made a "ringtone" folder on the phone's sd card and put the mp3 file there. I can even play it on the phone if I go in there manually to do it. It does not show up as a ringtone to choose from as a notification alert. I REALLY need to get this to work. Please...any clues.
