How does screen mirroring work

I tried to screen mirror a video that was playing on chrome on my edge to my nexus player or my Phillips smart tv and it scans and finds nothing? All devices are on same network

Screen mirroring has been a feature since the SIII. I've used it successfully with a Samsung start TV that also has the screen mirroring feature.

You have to use the chromecast app on your phone and connect to the nexus player, then choose cast screen from the slide out menu.

Chromecast does get the job done as well. Thought you were referring to the Samsung native apps.

No sorry I'm trying to watch a video on chrome browser and just needed away to play it on my nexus player
