How does the Pixel 2 make my Google life better than an iPhone?

Well.. concerning the topic of this thread... I'm afraid I'm going to have to stick with my iPhone 8+ as my primary. I have 2 lines: personal and business. I've been a habitual swapper between the 2 sims - going back and forth between the 2XL and the iPhone on my personal line. The whole iMessage thing throws a huge wrench into it. Even though prior to a sim swap I go through the motions of turning off iMessage and deregister my number from the apple website, I still miss tons of texts from the iPhone users when I'm on the 2XL.

So I've decided to keep the 2XL on my business line where it handles primarily conference calls, etc.. during the business week. That line gets far fewer texts.

For the OP, the only advice I can give is that if you don't have 2 lines and your circle of family and friends are primarily on the Apple ecosystem, then it'll be too painful to swap for only the points mentioned in this thread (Google Assistant, photos, etc..) If you're coming from a newer iPhone, 7 or 8 or X, then honestly the photo quality difference won't be monumental.
I have a business and personal line too and swap quite often. I never have to do the whole deactivate from iMessage thing and never have issues with sending or receiving texts messages. I used to in the past but haven't had to do that in quite a while and just figured something changed on the backed with Apple to prevent these issues.

In do however go to my AT&T and update IMEI and data plans since AT&T has iPhone specific plans. Maybe this is why I never have to deactivate my number in iMessage or in my Apple account.

Thanks for the response!

Honestly, iMessage is probably the biggest thing keeping me with iOS and Apple. Otherwise, it has little benefit over a Pixel to me. I share a lot of pics and videos with my parents and some other family members, mostly of my small army of children. While there are other means to sharing, it does pose an issue when I have to make them download a new app. And it could mess with quite a few group text threads I'm in now.

However, Android has gotten so good at so much now. Notifications are LIGHT YEARS ahead of iOS. iOS is a joke when it comes to notifications. And I'd really prefer just a bit of customization, please. I'm still torn...

I shared tons of pictures of my daughter to my parents and in laws. All IOS users. Google Photos is really the best way to do it. I created an album in my daughter's name and shared it with all of them(10 people in total) everybody gets a notification whenever I share a picture or video. Plus this way it's much better organized. Added bonus it's unlimited storage. I think there are more than 4000 pictures and videos in 2 albums now. Good luck with storing that much data for free with Apple.

If you looking for better integration between the 2 OS, Google photo is one example I have for you. On my phone, if I want to free up space for photos that are already backed up, I just have to do it once in the Google Photos app. On my wife's iPhone, I have to do it in the Google app, then go into the ios photo app and delete them again in the trash folder.

As a side note, really not that hard to convince all my ios friends and family to use Google photo because of the 5 gig limit on iCloud unless they want to pay for extra storage.

B to the I to the N to the G to the O. That's exactly what I told my family and friends that kept ******** about iMessage. And if they didn't want to use something more universal, that was on them. Now, I will say this. Most of them did NOT have the "Send as SMS if iMessage is not available" button activated in their iMessage app. Once I got them to make sure it was toggled on, pretty much all cross-platform group messaging troubles disappeared. (Didn't fix low-res videos, but that's a different issue.)

Same here, my family communicate with WhatsApp now, and I am the only Android user in our group. I guess they really love me. Haha

The low res videos was one of the reason they switched to whatsapp. They all want to see high res videos of my daughter. Haha, I guess they really love my daughter and not me.

Reggie, if I'm reading you right - I believe your doubt is spelled out in this article. :D

(This is satire of course - as you see from my post above I'm an iphone AND Pixel user)

Oh my god. That article actually exists? People actually care if they're a green bubble or not? That article looked like it was written by a 16 year old girl, but it was actually written by an adult male. I somehow doubt a woman rejected him because he was a green bubble. Oh geez. I can't believe I wasted a couple of minutes reading that drivel. Sad!

I didn't mean to imply the Android guys are any worse than the iOS guys. There's people in both camps that for some reason feel you're insulting their manhood if you like the other operating system better.

As I have found android guys are actually a little politer on this forum than McRumore. I didn’t take your post as saying that Andrew guys are any worse than iOS guys if that was your thinking. However I’m saying after so many years on McRumor site they are terrible at times. ;)

not sure if anyone mentioned this but the integration with microsoft is good. And the integration of google/chrome across most platforms. It would be nice if apple would allow itunes to be used across android...

Yup and unfortunately some grown *** adults actually think this way. My feelings are if you have friends that complain about a"green bubble" you might need to find new friends.

@VivaTerlingua Just wanted to give a heads up to something I learned recently myself. If you bought your Pixel 2 from the Google Store, the return period has been extended to January 21st, so you don't have to feel rushed at all.
